Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will fight under the Zuffa banner for the 31st time in June. The former WEC standout holds a spot near top of the list of most exciting mixed martial artists of all time, with 16 total post-fight bonuses in the WEC and UFC, which is a Zuffa record. An eight-fight win streak was required for Cerrone to finally receive his first UFC title shot, and unfortunately the opportunity was squandered. Lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos only needed 66 seconds to dispose of Cerrone at UFC on FOX 17. As a result, Cerrone moved up to the welterweight division, where he was able to defeat Alex “Cowboy” Oliviera with a beautiful submission in his last appearance.
Patrick Cote is on his fourth UFC stint, and has found great success in the welterweight division after spending his entire career at 185-pounds. The Canadian has racked up a 5-1 record in the UFC’s welterweight division, with the lone loss coming against top contender Stephen Thompson. Cote is on a roll, with victories over Ben Saunders, Josh Burkman, and Joe Riggs in his last three appearances. In 2008, Cote received a middleweight title shot after winning five consecutive fights, but he will need more than that to enter title contention in today’s loaded welterweight division.
