The UFC touched down in Boston, Massachusetts for UFC Fight Night 81 on January 17, 2016.The card featured the bantamweight title fight between the current champion T.J. Dillashaw and the challenger Dominick Cruz.
Dillashaw came into the fight riding a four-fight win streak and his second title defense. In his second title defense, Dillashaw defeated former bantamweight champion Renan Barao by TKO in the fourth round. Dillashaw has earned himself a Fight Night bonus in his last three victories.
Cruz came into the fight on a ten-fight win streak and never actually lost the bantamweight title, but injuries forced the UFC to vacate it, which led to Dillashaw finding his way to win it.
Many will argue that the belt is actually still Cruz’s, so the fight helped validate who the real king at 135 truly is.
The two fighters have been going back and forth with trash talk and their interview on Fox Sports with Jon Anik really built up UFC Fight Night 81. Both fighters showed they did not like each other and added even more intrigue to a title fight.
