Melendez last fought in June at UFC 188 in Mexico City, where he was edged by now the next title challenger, Eddie Alvarez, via split decision. The worst part about it is almost a month after the fight, it was revealed that “El Nino” tested positive for exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites in his post-fight drug test at UFC 188. As a result, he was suspended for a year.The 34-year-old former Strikeforce and WEC lightweight champion is currently on a two-fight losing streak. The San Francisco fighter has lost three of his last four fights since joining the UFC and after winning seven consecutive bouts.

Barboza, 30, had fought less than two weeks ago, picking former UFC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, apart for the unanimous decision at UFC 197 in Las Vegas. The Brazilian striker has alternated wins and losses in his last four fights, but also has two Fight of the Night bonuses in his last three fights. Barboza is 11-4 overall inside the Octagon.
