T.J. Dillashaw shocked the world to defeat Renan Barao at UFC 173 and win the bantamweight championship. Barao had been undefeated in nearly a decade and was considered to be the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world when Dillashaw defeated him.
This rematch has been in the works for a year. At UFC 177 in August of 2014, Barao pulled out after he couldn’t make weight. Dillashaw defended his belt against Joe Soto, a last minute replacement. Another rematch was scheduled but a Dillashaw injured postponed the fight to UFC on FOX 16 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois in late July of 2015.
